First Steps
Where do I begin my online digitizing training?
May I suggest you go get a cup of tea or coffee, relax and take your time here?
Perhaps you have recently purchased your Wilcom Embroidery Studio Software and need help to get started - or you may have owned the digitizing and graphics package for some time and feel you are not getting the best out of it.
There is a lot to learn but thankfully, all of it is interesting and I am sure
you will enjoy your time here by taking one step at a time.
Stitchvault's online Wilcome training is some of the best digitizing help you will find
anywhere on the web.
The site consists of:
* Online digitizing lessons that take you through setting up the software
* Choosing the best configuration for you
* Describing each tool, its settings or properties
* Digitizing projects to put it all together.
All lessons are in managed, short, easy to understand "blocks" and I do suggest
you do one "block" at a time and come back and review as often as you like.
There are dozens of instructional videos linked to most articles.
If you are lucky enough to have two monitors - play the video on one - pause and practice on your software on the other monitor.
In each lesson, I will explain the goal of the lesson and include links to images and
short videos to help you every step of the way.
Unless otherwise stated, all the documentation has been prepared using
Wilcom Embroidery Studio. However, due to the continuity of design by Wilcom,
most users of older versions will recognize the recommendations throughout this course.
When possible, instructions for earlier versions will be included.
Here at Stitchvault, we have spent hundreds of hours testing, digitizing and training people just like yourselves and are proud to be able to present this site based on real life digitizing experience and training.
From this, we have learned some of the most common questions and problems both by first time and experienced users - some examples are:
- I need help with input A
- What is Tatami stitching?
- What is the difference between tatami stitching and satin stitching?
- What is the best underlay for machine embroidery?
We want you to feel relaxed here and free to explore, ask questions and make suggestions
as we anticipate the site will develop, driven by your input - so please do not hold back with your comments and suggestions.
Okay, so how do I know what version and level I have?
Version - can be likened to the engine size of a car - 2.0 or 1.5 or the year - 2006.
Level - can be likened to the model of a car: Corolla or Prius,
same year but different model - Level 1 being the standard package and Level 3 is top of the line.
If you look along the top or your screen you will see the Level.

Below is an example of level 3 Embroidery Studio used for the purpose of identifying your version, to assist in your online digitizing training.
So - why is it important to understand your version of the software?
As each new version is released, improved tools and features are available, so understanding what you have in your software will help you understand your online digitizing training lessons.
Throughout the Stitchvault site we will identify features and tools that are only available in particular versions and levels.

The Version may be found under the HELP>ABOUT ES menu and will look like this.
The latest in the Wilcom Range is Embroidery Studio Version 2.0 ML (Multi Language)
The highlighted area opposite is telling me this example is Version 1.5K Multi Language 1 issued
4th May 2009 .
All earlier versions should have SP and a number to signify a service pack has been installed.
If your "About Wilcom" dialogue box does not show the service pack, I suggest you go to the Wilcom Support site and download the latest Service Pack.
