What is Wilcom Software
What is Wilcom software and how does it work?
Objectives: To take a broad look at how the system works.
We will look at specific details in the relevant sections
Before we begin, please take your time.
Review each page and if you find any confusing topics, make sure you ask for clarification via the forum.
The site is designed to be used in conjunction with your digitising system.
If you have dual monitors (and I suggest you investigate this if you do not), read these articles and videos on one monitor, pause and practice on your software on the other.
Wilcom’s ES suite of digitizing software is a Computer Aided Drawing System (CAD), similar to other
high-end graphic design programmes.
In fact, the latest release is so closely aligned with the Corel Draw system, the two programs are integrated
and are included in Embroidery Studio.
The program is vector based, meaning we draw shapes (objects) with specially selected tools.
The objects are then filled with stitches according to the properties we select in the properties box
relating to that object.
When we use the tools, we are not actually putting in stitch points but rather producing vector shapes that will be filled with stitches.
When we edit, we do not edit stitches but objects.
To edit stitches we change the properties.
The properties of each object are controlled in the properties box on the right hand side of your monitor
and include the following:

-
Special
-
Fills
-
Outlines
When you select an object, it’s properties are reflected in the properties box.
If any field is greyed-out, then that property does not apply to that particular object.

This is the colour palette editor which determines the thread brands and colours that are available from the
Colour Palette at the bottom of your screen.
Not only can you select thread colours and brands, you can create colours and thread charts based on your local stock and allocate colours to particular elements of your design so that detail is stored permamently with your .emb file
