It is worth mentioning that Access Violation errors are not peculiar to Wilcom. A quick google of 'access violation' bought up 3,500,000 results.
Some of the reports make interesting reading and if you are interested it is worth a few minutes to read some of the support groups.
Wilcom also have articles in their support section. www.wilcom.com.au/support
I have found two main occurrences of access violation.
- On starting the system, Wilcom will not open
- While using the program and suddenly the program stops or crashes and gives the access violation error message.
The first is usually prevented by regular maintenance, I recommend doing this at least weekly.
From Your windows Start icon bottom left, navigate to Program Files>Wilcom Embrodiery Studio>Wilcom Embroidery Studio Tools and select Purge Recovery

This can also be done manually by deleting all files from C:\Program Files\Wilcom\EmbroideryStudio_e1.5\BACKUP |
||
The wilcom system will save files to the C:\Program Files\Wilcom\EmbroideryStudio_e1.5\BACKUP in an emergency. If you think you have lost a file you have been working, on because of a computer crash, it is often possible to navigate to this directory find the file. It will have the file name you have given to it and an extension .bak.
It is possible to right click and rename the file to filename.emb and the file can be opened and work on the file can proceed.
Because of the nature of the files, they may be corrupt and need to be purged from the sytem regularly.
So if you are sure all the files you have been working on are stored safely, follow the above procedure.
As I mentioned earlier it is good practice to perform a Purge Recover on a regular basis.
The second common scenario occurs while you are working on a file and the software has been running for some time.
It is possible for a particular file to become corrupt and this is what is causing your access violation error, obviously needs to be replaced.
WARNING if you attempt this make sure you copy to and from the correct directories DO NOT GET IT ROUND THE WRONG WAY.
